The Plant Diagnostic Laboratory (PDL), directed by Dr. Karen Rane, provides timely identifications of diseases
and insect pests of horticultural and agronomic crops for the state of Maryland.
Information is provided to growers and members of the landscape maintenance
industry
through electronic media and publications. The PDL is also heavily involved with
training growers and extension educators at all levels.
The Plant Nematology Laboratory, directed by Ms. Sandra Sardanelli, addresses current issues relating to plant-parasitic nematodes (microscopic roundworms) and their effect on the economics
of agriculture in Maryland.
Projects are conducted in coordination with personnel in the University
of Maryland System, the Maryland Department of Agriculture and the
Beltsville Agricultural Research Center.
