Research Focus Areas

Gruner-Grammia-caterRequirements of the graduate program are flexible to accommodate the increasing diversity of interests and needs among students attracted to the Department. Students may choose to pursue one or more of the following focus areas:

Concentration in a given focus area does not restrict a student to a specific curriculum of required courses beyond the limited core required of all M.S. and Ph.D students. Focus areas simply help students, in consultation with their faculty advisors and study committees, to pursue courses and research tailored to their interests. Within a focus area, there are active collaborations among faculty and interactions with several inter-departmental and inter-institutional graduate programs. Thus, students have opportunities to work with different faculty and obtain exposure to a wide range of scholarship in their focus areas.
